Our Year 2019

COLTISHALL AND HORSTEAD 2019

The year started in December 2018 with the Bring and Share Supper when we were entertained by Rachel Duffield with her one woman show of singing, acting and reciting.  Afternoon meetings began in January and have proved to be a positive move for the majority of our members.

Fund-raising for the Priscilla Bacon New Hospice Appeal was a great success due to the involvement of all our members and we can feel justifiably proud that we were able to make a contribution to such a worthwhile cause.

We were very lucky to have East Anglian Air Ambulance Staff take us through First Aid Training including the use of defibrillators giving us confidence to provide first aid should an emergency arise.

There have been many Norfolk Federation Centenary activities for members to enjoy: one highlight being the Thanksgiving Celebration at Norwich Cathedral when we processed our banner.  The Centenary Federation Annual Meeting was held at the Theatre Royal with two excellent speakers, one of whom was Pam Ayres.  The Federation Garden Party was held at East Ruston Old Vicarage with two sessions, both a sell out.  Our own Garden Party was a well-attended fun event when we were blessed with wonderful weather.

It was Coltishall and Horstead’s turn to provide a delegate for the National Annual Meeting of WIs, which was held in Bournemouth, and our delegate ably represented us voting on our behalf on the Resolutions.

We had two visits to Vera’s Restaurant in March and August which were both well-attended and enjoyed, we had three trips to Sheringham Little Theatre seeing Quartet, another production of The Vicar of Dibley and Goodnight Mr Tom; at The Theatre Royal we enjoyed Guys and Dolls.  We visited Stody Lodge and had a special visit to The Embroiders’ Guild. On Norfolk Day on 27th July, although the weather wasn’t kind, we gave away 100 cakes to the public.  With the Craft Group members made net bags for vegetables.  We had a further day making Morsbags all in an effort to try to cut down on single-use plastic bags and to try to encourage people to use more sustainable and reusable materials.
