About Us
WELCOME TO BRUNDALL EVENING WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
A very warm welcome awaits you in Brundall within this friendly group of local women that meets on the second Thursday of each month in Brundall Memorial Hall at 7.30pm.
Brundall Evening WI is part of a fellowship of more than 200,000 women, the largest women's organisation in the UK. Through the WI we aim to forge friendships, learn new skills and make a difference in our community. The WI prides itself on being a trusted place for all women of all generations to share experiences and learn from each other.
We currently have 40 members. We offer a varied programme of meetings, events and outings throughout the year with speakers at our meetings on varied subjects along with plenty of time for tea/coffee and a chat. In recent years they have covered topics as varied as the work of The Associated Country Women of the World, the largest international organization for both rural and urban women with a membership of nine million in over 70 countries, the "Herring Girls", the "Science of Sleep" and the work of Norfolk Knitters.
Our programme for 2022/23 is set out on the Meetings Programme page.
Our Brundall meetings consist of a welcome by the President, birthday cards distributed to members with birthdays that month and a speaker, followed by tea and biscuits. Then the business part of the meeting takes place with notices and correspondence from ‘The House’ and any other business. The whole meeting usually lasts just under 2 hours.
Our walking group meets once a month for a walk and a coffee and we also have a lunch group.
Each year we also have a number of outings and visits which, in previous years, has included a trip on the River Deben, the National Stud at Newmarket, Thursford Christmas Spectacular and the shows at the Theatre Royal.
Also, like all WIs we take time to discuss the national shortlisted resolutions which are then debated nationally and those chosen drive the national campaigns.
One of our members is a trustee of the NFWI, another currently chairs the Norfolk Federation's Public Affairs Committee and another is a WI Climate Ambassador.
Twice a year, Norfolk Federation of WIs (NFWI) meetings take place usually in March and October. The annual meeting takes place in March the autumn meetings are usually spread around the county.
NFWI events are open to all members of Norfolk WIs and are arranged at “The House”, as the headquarters in Norwich is commonly known. There are opportunities to “nosh ’n natter ie lunch, take part in workshops on a range of subjects, jigsaw races, bridge and Mah Jong, to mention a few. All of these are contained in WI News which is distributed monthly to all our members and the WI Life which is posted to all members from head office. More information can be found on the NFWI website and Facebook page. (See below)
Annually the WI hold a National Meeting which is held in a large venue, sometimes Royal Albert Hall or a seaside hotel, where the delegates discuss the year ahead and agree the accounts etc. of the previous year. This is attended by a delegate from a group of WI’s who reports back to each of the WI’s afterwards.
