Botanical Gardens Cambridge 10th July 2024
As a coach share with Attleborough WI, a group of us visited the gardens in Cambridge and enjoyed the day in between a few showers in the morning but sunny for the rest of the day. A nice lunch, afternoon tea and coffee and leisurely strolls around the grounds. Then, of course, plants and goodies were bought at the end of the day!
Guiltcross Meeting 18th April 2024We belong to a group of WIs who meet twice a year for a meeting, Attleborough, East Harling, Tibenham and Bunwell. We welcomed Jason Middleton as the speaker who gave us a talk on the history of jewellery right back to the Stone Age where they used natural materials such as bone, wood and sea shells. Gold appeared in Egyptian times with gemstones which were found in the tombs of their rulers and this is how we found out about jewellery through the items buried in graves of very important and wealthy people which gave us an insight into how these items were made. It was amazing to see how intricate designs were all those years ago and how important it was to royalty and nobility. He chatted about the different types of metal used in the process and the gemstones and passed round colours. | |
Norwich on the Dark Side Guided Tour 28th July 2023 - Paul Dickson
A small group of us had an enjoyable afternoon on this guided walk.
This 1½ hour guided walking tour, setting off from The Erpingham Gate, looked at the darker side of Norwich, crime, punishment, filth and misery!
We heard about grizzly tales of the plague, the ups and downs of Kett’s Rebellion, the horror of Lollards Pit, drunken 17th century antics, celebrated Victorian murders and executions, floods, filth and grime – all stories from the darker side of Norwich.
Kinky Boots at the Theatre Royal 31st January 2023
Trips to the Theatre Royal are popular with our WI and Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society have put on this show. We enjoyed ourselves on this evening with the show getting excellent reviews from the local press and members from our WI and Attleborough WI attending.
Ely Cathedral Christmas Market 18th November 2022
This event was run by the Norfolk Federation and was very popular. 14 members from Old Buckenham WI went and the day was very enjoyable. Lots of shopping, eating and drinking. There was a Carousel there and a few members had fun on that as well. I enjoyed a luxury hot chocolate at the end of the day!

Christmas Craft Day 12th November 2022
We had an enjoyable day making Christmas Ornaments with a pewter embossing workshop and a fabric origami christmas tree workshop. People from other WIs also joined us and it was a lovely social event. Everybody worked hard to make their ornaments.
Produce Show 11th September 2022
After such a dry summer we were really amazed at the number of entries for the fruit, vegetables and flowers that we received this year as well as all the other categories. It was a really successful event.
We will not be running the event next year but people in the village are willing to carry on with the Show and a provisional date has been set for 10th September 2023.
Norwich Evening Walk
Friday 19th August 2022
We had a lovely time walking around the historic alleys, lanes and passageways in Norwich with Paul Dickson as a guide. I never realised how many historical buildings were hidden away behind other buildings and we enjoyed Paul's chat about the history of them.
We walked down the former Esperanto Way. We heard stories of Hampshire Hog Yard and Ninham’s, Rigby and Watts Courts. We saw Gybson’s Conduit. We found out what JB Priestley thought of Norwich and Lady Eastlake thought of Jane Eyre. We passed great medieval churches, rare thatched buildings and discovered a great Victorian singing teacher and why Father Ignatius caused such a furore and much more.
Afterwards we had a meal together which was thoroughly enjoyed.
