About Us
Yaxham & District WI have been meeting in the village since 1934. Meetings were originally held in the Church Rooms but moved to the new Village Hall which was opened in 1989 following fund raising after the Queen's Silver Jubilee Celebrations. This included annual carnivals in which the WI entered a themed float. The 80th Birthday was celebrated on 8th October 2014 with a dinner in the Village Hall attended by present and past members and Federation Chairman Wendy Adams. The WI arranges a Harvest Supper for the village each year and until 2015 a bi-annual Horticultural and Craft show. Pictures of various places in the village were done in cross-stitch by mainly WI members in 2003 and these are in a framed wall hanging which can be seen in the Village Hall. Members meet with other WIs in the Woodland Group during the year for meetings, a quiz and Carol Service. They can also join with other villagers on the Good Companions summer outings and as a WI we have had a tour of Dann's Icecream business at North Tuddenham and Bawdeswell Garden Centre followed by lunch at Hamptons for our last two Summer outings.
During 2017 members enjoyed a variety of speakers ranging from the wonderful world of stinging nettles, Norfolk history revealed in old documents, the fisherman who painted in wool, SERV Blood Bikers and crossing the Pacific in a Clipper. Some meetings are now held in the afternoons (See Programme for details).
Come and see us at one of our meetings.
